Trance legends John O’Callaghan (#24 DJ in the world) and Christopher Lawrence (#40 DJ in the world), alongside locals Eric Allen and Danny Taylor, blew the roof off of BOSS Nightclub for VIVID Entertainment’s Trance Legends on October 29th, 2009.

Exactly one year ago, I saw John O’Callaghan for the first time at Dooms Night 2008 from the dance floor. Today, it’s really nice knowing I’ve had the chance to be a part of the scene (and shake a lot of famous hands).

Now, it’s just a matter of when I’ll be spinning myself.

Song of the Week: Swagga by Excision and Datsik

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Straight out of Kelowna, British Columbia, “Swagga” by Excision and Datsik is a sinister, unrelenting bass ride that will have you stepping whether you want to or not.

Imagine that there’s a giant robot whale living in your subwoofer – and he wants to eat you. And he has a bat. That’s Swagga.

Bayonetta Ad Makes You A Pervert

Bayonetta Flyer Peel Ad - Lying
Bayonetta Flyer Peel Ad - Leaning

Back when Marketing Ruined My Life (my now-defunct, marketing blog) was still around, I had a number of posts dedicated to clever outdoor ads. Helping us revisit that tradition are two upcoming billboards for Sega’s highly-anticipated action game, Bayonetta.

Each board reaches six feet wide and will feature a panel of detachable flyers, covering what one can only assume to be a naked Bayonetta. Or not. The only way to tell is to swallow that pride and grab a flyer.

These ads are set to run between October 26th and November 1st in Shinjuku Station, Tokyo, so if you’re in the area, don’t forget to grab a shot and fill us in!

Update (2009/10/29)
The ad went live and the flyers are gone. What’s underneath? Hair.

Location(s)
Granville Island at night

Homie(s)
Peter Anderson, Janis Behan, John Biehler, Pam Bjalek, Brennan Brosseau, Gus Fosarolli, Tyler Ingram, Tawcan, Scott Prince, Mikey Valdes, etc.

Arriving a little over an hour into the walk, Mikey and I found the group in one of Emily Carr’s corridors, and what a spectacle it was; the entire length was full of light stands and just as many photographers. While we missed most of the model action, the remainder was a nice chance to revisit fast primes and the cinematic feel that comes with them. Go go ISO1600!

In the end, there weren’t too many photos, but the remainder are on Flickr as always. Again, a pleasure seeing everyone, and thanks to John Biehler and Scott Prince for organizing.

Song of the Week: “Faces” by Ashley Wallbridge and Andy Moor feat. Meighan Nealon

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Ever have a song stop you in your tracks? For me, that’s “Faces” by Ashley Wallbridge and Andy Moor – my favourite song of 2009.

Let me start by saying that anything Ashley Wallbridge pumps out is awesome. When paired with Meighan Nealon, it becomes magic. Add Andy Moor to the mix, and I start tearing up.

Everything about Faces blows me away. The production is pristine, and somehow, the atmosphere is still MASSIVE. The stop-and-go of the bassline has a ridiculous pump to it. The piano in the breakdown? Shivers every time. And with Nealon’s saccharine voice leading the way, ladies and gentlemen – you’ve got perfection. When I look for inspiration, Faces is one of the first places I look.

I’ve waited three months to buy Faces, and it was worth every second. Today, it’s my ringtone. Phone calls have never made me so happy.

Love it? BUY IT. The radio mix does not do this choon any justice.
