Sociable! Launch Party

Ladies and gentlemen – the contest is now closed, and we have our winners! Congratulations to Lyal Avery, Owen Clark, Guacira Naves, Stacey Robinsmith, and Michael Zipursky! I’ll be messaging you all on Twitter for details on how to receive your free signed copy of Sociable! (Missed the giveaway? No worries – you can still get your own copy at Amazon and follow me on Twitter for future promotions!)

Last Thursday, Shane Gibson and Stephen Jagger launched their social-media guide book, “Sociable!“, with a huge meetup that had Yaletown’s V Lounge packed from wall to wall. It’s been a week since the event, and now that we’ve all had a chance to chat, let’s see how sociable you really are.

I have five copies of “Sociable!” signed by Shane Gibson to give away. What I propose is that you choose one people you’ve met through social media, and spread some good karma by tweeting about why they’re awesome.

Sounds good? Here are the fine details:

  • There are five prizes available. Each prize consists of a free copy of “Sociable!” signed by Shane Gibson and a Starbucks coffee on me.
  • In order to be eligible entrants must:
    1. Tweet about why someone they’ve met on social media is awesome, and include both a #sociable hash tag and a link back to this post in their message.
    2. Leave a comment at the bottom of this page with their Twitter message and the permalink to said tweet.
  • Two winners will be chosen by random draw, and three for the most awesome stories.
  • Entries close at 11:59PM PST on February 12th, 2010. Prize winners will be announced on Twitter and jeremylim.ca on February 15th, 2010.

And the legal stuff:

  • You must be at least 18 years old to win. The contest is open worldwide, but prizes (especially the coffee) are only available for delivery in the Greater Vancouver Regional District.
  • Jeremy Lim shall not be responsible for any damages to the prizes (e.g. instant combustion, meteor strikes, etc.) or delays in transit.

Fail Quatchi Unleashes Rage, Tweeters Join In

QUATCHI SMASH

The final round of ticketing for the 2010 Olympics was set to launch this morning, but servers crashed and epic fail ensued. While Facebook was quiet, the tweeters were unyielding.

@PhilCaines Tickets.com is not able to handle the 3rd Olympic ticket selling. Why did vanoc use such a lowsy service? There are errors all over! #2010

@jeremylim If #2010 ticketing were in person, it would look like the crowd at a single-stall ladies’ bathroom. At a Jonas Bros concert.

@vchan Twitter has the failwhale when things go wrong. I wonder if Vancouver 2010 site is going to show a giant fail Quatchi.

@chrisbreikss: going to petition Webster to change the def of “Debacle” to include reference to 2010 Olympic ticket purchasing process

@bobmackin Will there be a souvenir pin issued to commemorate the VANOC ticketing “SNAFU Saturday?”

@trenzullo BIG waste of time today. Can’t believe @2010tweets didn’t send out relevent tweets throughout the am

That’s not to say there weren’t victories today. One person got in.

@2010Tweets RT @mhlchong finally logged in!! – Congrats!

For those still looking for tickets, VANOC has moved the date to November 14th, but will we be caught waiting in line again?

Have more favourite quotes from the debacle? Leave them in the comments!

Props to Tim Wong for the find!

Meeting Mr. Social Media Singapore

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Yesterday afternoon, I had the pleasure of sitting down with up-and-coming social media consultant Jasper Ong for coffee. Even as a relatively new entry into the field, Jasper demonstrated a deep understanding of the arena we work in. Ambitious, well-spoken, and eager to share, he left me motivated and with a batch of new tools to play with.

While I won’t spill all of his secrets, I just had to leak KnowEm, a site that scours 120 of the most popular social media sites to check if your name has been registered. Delicious.

If you’re looking for a social media consultant in Singapore, Jasper comes recommended; if he’s the right fit for you, he won’t let you down.

P.S. Wouldn’t be much of a social media post without a social media plug, right? Be sure to hit Jasper up on Twitter!

The Best Sushi in Vancouver (Proof That Social Media Works)

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Yesterday, I threw out a question on Facebook via status update: “Hey Vancouverites, where’s the best #sushi in town?”

The Best Sushi in Vancouver. Thanks, everyone!

18 replies between 15 people; I think I set some sort of new record. Suffice to say, I’m very happy with my new list of places to eat. Looks like Yum! Vancouver is going to be Japanese-heavy when it launches. (On that note, if you’re down for food blogging, I’m looking for people to join me for dinner on Yum! Vancouver outings. Leave a comment at the bottom of this post if you’re interested!)

Thank you sushi for bringing us all together, and thank you to everyone for all your suggestions!

P.S. Kenta, Frances and I are going to pwn your fridge.

Edit (2008/10/24): Updated the list with addresses, Twitter suggestions, and personal favorites. Thanks for the prod to put the list together, Michelle! Got more? Leave them in the comments with their website and address and I’ll add them to the list!

  • Sushi Garden – 4635 Kingsway in Burnaby. (Thanks, Christian! P.S. Sushi Town at 5935 Hastings Street is their sister restaurant.)
  • Kenta’s House – Somewhere in North Vancouver (Sorry, Kenta’s mom.)
  • Sushi Yama – 371 East Broadway in Vancouver (Thanks, Peter!)
  • Tanpopo – 1122 Denman in Downtown Vancouver. (Thanks, Gabe! All-you-can-eat sashimi’s not bad in my experience, but haven’t been back in a while.)
  • Samurai Japanese Restaurant – 6428 Fraser in Vancouver or at 1108 Davie in Downtown. (Thanks, Steve! I <3 Robot Unicorn.)
  • Honjin Sushi – 140 Lonsdale in North Vancouver and 138 Davie Street in Yaletown (Thanks, Veronica! Your family restaurant, no?)
  • Tojo’s Restaurant – 1133 West Broadway in Vancouver (Thanks, Richard and Raul!)
  • Tora Renbo – On 8191 Park Road in Richmond (Thanks again, Richard!)
  • Ajisai – 2081 West 42nd Ave in Vancouver (Thanks, Janet!)
  • Kaide – 1375 Richards Street in Vancouver (Thanks, Andrei!)
  • Ebei – 5901 Granville Street in Vancouver (Thanks, Frances! Though … I didn’t really enjoy this spot that much. Typical all-you-can-eat fare with sub-par service.)
  • The Eatery – 3431 West Broadway in Vancouver (Thanks, Marc! This place looks crazy. Can’t wait to try it!)
  • Kishu Mountain – 805 West Broadway in Vancouver (Thanks again, Raul!)
  • Sushi Maro – 220 Davie Street in Downtown Vancouver (Thanks a third time, Raul!)
  • Sushi Mori – 4740 Capilano Road in North Vancouver (A personal favourite introduced by Ms. Jay Lee. Authentic Japanese found on your way up to Grouse Mountain. Post-snowboarding sushi, anyone?)
